Soak It Up! A Workshop on Flood-Resilient Yards

Saturday, May 24th from 1-3pm
CVUUS, 2 Duane Ct Middlebury VT

Did you know that your yard can help absorb stormwater while supporting pollinators? Join Addison County River Watch, Pollinator Pathways of Addison County, and the Middlebury Conservation Commission for a workshop on residential green stormwater infrastructure practices. Green stormwater infrastructure practices are designed to reduce the impact of stormwater on our roads, homes, and rivers. You can engage in these practices in a variety of ways, from mowing less to investing in a rain garden. Have you noticed areas in your yard where water pools? A rain garden could be a great option for you! Are you tired of spending so much time and money mowing your lawn? Mowing less or miniature meadows could free up your time and wallet. Our lawns play an important role in slowing and soaking up stormwater, especially in more urban areas. At this workshop, you’ll be able to connect with contractors, funding sources, and ideas to make your yard more stormwater-friendly. We aim to provide the tools to help you decide on the best strategies for implementing stormwater-friendly practices that match your budget and the unique needs of your yard. We hope to see you there! Saturday May 24th at 2 Duane Ct in Middlebury from 1-3pm. Contact acrwcvt@gmail.com with any questions!

Addison County River Watch Collaborative is a nonprofit organization dedicated to water quality in Addison County.

Water quality monitoring is central to our organization’s mission.

We monitor rivers, creeks, and streams in Addison County throughout the warmer months for phosphorus, nitrogen, chloride, and E. coli. This gives us a more comprehensive view of the health of our waterways.
